Despite Ghana’s voter population being largely youthful (55.1%), only 12 Youth (4.36%) out of the 155 who contested the 2020 general elections will be in the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic; a slight dip from 2016 elections, where 13 youth (4.75%) won parliamentary elections.

Out of the 12 Youth MPs elect, five namely; Samuel Nartey George, Francisca Oteng Mensah, Mavis Nkansah Boadu, John Ntim Forduour and Joycelyn Tetteh retained their seats and seven (7) are new entrants.

Our Call

As we, the Youth Bridge Foundation celebrates Ghana’s newest Youth MPs-elect, we make the following calls;

The Youth MPs-elect must serve as youth ambassadors who should not lose touch with their constituents

We also ask them to advance youth issues in parliament from bipartisan perspectives

While we recognize and celebrate our young parliamentarians, we charge them to be open to embrace capacity development to strengthen the delivery of their mandate

Members of Parliament who entered at youthful age should guide and mentor the young parliamentarians to advance the cause of the youth
